BLACK FRIDAY  

Black Friday is an annual event which is typically the biggest day for retail sales in the US and falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Renowned for its offering of great discounts, it has now become a yearly retail event in the UK too. As it falls on, or near, the last payday before Christmas, it's usually an opportunity for shoppers to get big savings on gifts.

Black Friday always falls on the last Friday in November, making Friday 29th November the day for amazing savings this year.

Nowadays Black Friday doesn't always begin at midnight, some events start a day, or even a few days before. So that you don't miss out, it's ideal to be signed up to the newsletter of the brands you shop at.

You would be inclined to believe that Black Friday deals tend to expire after the Friday, however a lot of brands will wrap up their offers at midnight on Cyber Monday. So make sure to keep checking back across the entire weekend.

Although the origin is somewhat disputed, the story normally goes like this... Police officers in Philadelphia coined the term "Black Friday" to describe the stressful day after Thanksgiving where shoppers and tourists would head to the centre of the city to watch the football game, causing large crowds and traffic jams. Although retailers tried to change the term to "Big Friday" to avoid these negative connotations of the day, "Black Friday" eventually stuck.

This year, Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday and falls on Monday 2nd December 2024.
